Erasmus Mundus 2027: a fully funded master's in two or more European countries

Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) are EU-funded master's programmes run by groups of universities in at least three countries. You study in at least two of them and graduate with a joint or multiple degree. The best-ranked applicants worldwide, including Pakistani students, receive a full EU scholarship.

There is no single Erasmus Mundus application. Each programme recruits on its own, and most close between October 2026 and January 2027 for courses starting in September 2027. Several programmes already have December deadlines, so start now.

Erasmus Mundus scholarship amount and what it covers

An Erasmus Mundus scholarship is worth up to €33,600 in living allowance for a two-year master's, on top of free tuition.

What you get Details
Tuition and participation costs Paid in full (no fees to the universities)
Health insurance Arranged by the consortium for the whole programme
Monthly allowance €1,400 a month for the programme's duration, up to 24 months (€16,800 a year)
Travel, visa and settling-in Expected to come out of the monthly allowance

The allowance is meant to cover travel from Pakistan, visa fees, settling in and daily living. Moving between countries mid-programme and optional study trips may cost extra, so read the "costs" page of each programme.

Partial scholarships: some consortia offer their own fee waivers (often 50% of tuition) to applicants who just miss a full EU scholarship. These carry no stipend.

Eligibility for Pakistani students

The EU sets one basic rule; everything else comes from the programme you choose.

  • Degree: a bachelor's degree, or be in your final year and graduate before the master's starts. A 4-year BS or a 16-year education degree from an HEC-recognised university qualifies.
  • Nationality: students from any country can apply. Pakistan has no quota and no separate track.
  • One EMJM scholarship per person: if you have already held an Erasmus Mundus scholarship, you cannot receive another.
  • Programme requirements: each consortium sets its own subject background, minimum CGPA, English test score and documents. Read them on the programme website before you start.

Erasmus Mundus is for master's only. There is no Erasmus Mundus bachelor's or PhD scholarship; for a bachelor's in Europe, see our Hungary and Italy pages, and for a PhD see the country hubs.

How to find the right Erasmus Mundus programme

Start with the official Erasmus Mundus catalogue, which lists 218 programmes and can be filtered by field, country and university.

  1. Filter by your field of study and shortlist 3–5 programmes that match your bachelor's.
  2. Open each programme's website and confirm it still offers EU scholarships for the 2027 intake. Not all of them do.
  3. Note each programme's deadline, minimum CGPA, English score and document list in one sheet.

Documents most programmes ask for

  • Passport
  • Bachelor's degree and transcript (final-year students: transcript so far and an expected-graduation letter)
  • English test: IELTS, TOEFL or the programme's accepted alternative; some accept an English-medium instruction letter
  • CV, usually in Europass format
  • Motivation letter written for that programme
  • Two recommendation letters from teachers or supervisors
  • Proof of residence (for the EU's residence check), such as your CNIC
  • Some programmes: writing sample, portfolio or GRE

Check whether the programme wants degree and transcript attestation from HEC at application or only on admission.

How to apply for Erasmus Mundus from Pakistan

You apply to each programme separately, on its own portal. The same application covers admission and the scholarship, as long as you tick the scholarship option.

  1. Shortlist programmes in the catalogue and check each one's 2027 deadline.
  2. Book your English test early so the result arrives before the first deadline.
  3. Ask referees in October. Teachers need two to three weeks to write and upload letters.
  4. Write a separate motivation letter for each programme, naming its courses, universities and the track you want.
  5. Submit on the programme portal and select "Erasmus Mundus scholarship". Missing this box usually means you are considered as self-funded only.
  6. Wait for the ranking. Programmes rank all applicants; the top ones get full scholarships, the next ones go on a reserve list.

Typical timeline

Stage Usual timing
Applications open October – November 2026
Scholarship deadlines December 2026 – January 2027
Interviews (some programmes) February – March 2027
Results and reserve lists March – April 2027
Visa May – August 2027
Programme starts September 2027

Dates differ by programme; always use the dates on the programme's own website.

Tips to win an Erasmus Mundus scholarship

Scholarships go to the top of each programme's ranking, so the goal is to be clearly the best fit for one programme, not an average fit for ten.

  • Apply to a few programmes that match your degree. A strong fit with 3–5 programmes beats generic applications to many.
  • Make the motivation letter programme-specific. Name modules, partner universities and the specialisation track, and link them to your bachelor's project or work.
  • Show results with numbers: CGPA, class rank, publications, projects, internships, awards.
  • Choose referees who know your work and can give examples, not just titles.
  • Submit a week early. Uploads and referee letters often fail on the last day.

Common mistakes

  • Not ticking the scholarship option on the application form.
  • Reusing one motivation letter for every programme.
  • Applying with an English score below the programme's minimum.
  • Missing a December deadline by assuming every programme closes in January.

Scam warning: Erasmus Mundus has no agents, no "processing fee" and no guaranteed seats. You apply directly to the university consortium. Check any paid offer with our Scam check.
